The Asia Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG) is the region’s leading capacity-building program, bringing together policymakers, technologists, academics, and civil society advocates to strengthen Internet governance across Asia Pacific.
Who We Are
APSIG is a regional School of Internet Governance dedicated to raising awareness and building capacity across Asia Pacific. Held annually, it brings together emerging and established Internet governance leaders for an intensive Training of Trainers program.
The School on Internet Governance model began in Europe in 2007 and later spread to Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. In Asia Pacific, an early two-day precursor program launched in 2011. Recognizing the need for a longer, dedicated regional program, a group led by Professor Kilnam Chon — widely regarded as the “Father of the Internet in Asia Pacific” — began developing APSIG in September 2015. The APSIG.asia website launched that same month, marking the program’s official inception, with the first full school convened in 2016 at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok.

Our Objectives
- Organize the APSIG program annually, bringing together leading speakers and experts on Internet governance and emerging technology topics.
- Promote and support national and local Schools on Internet Governance (SIGs) across the Asia Pacific region.
- Provide training and support to organizers and speakers at national and local SIGs.
- Address shared challenges across national SIGs — pedagogy, follow-up, faculty, session design, quality control, funding, and certification.
- Raise funds through grants and sponsorships to sustain high-quality APSIG activities.
- Maintain strong accountability and financial governance across all APSIG operations.

Applications are open for the APSIG 2026 Fellowship, welcoming emerging Internet governance leaders from across Asia Pacific.
📍 Call for Local Host
APSIG is seeking proposals from institutions interested in hosting the 2026 school in their city, an opportunity to showcase their community and directly shape regional capacity building.
🗂️ Fellowship & Program Committees
APSIG regularly calls for volunteers to serve on its Fellowship Committee and Program Committee, shaping who attends and what the school covers each year.

APSIG was founded by Professor Kilnam Chon, who continues to serve as an advisory committee member alongside representatives from APNIC, APTLD, and the independent research community.
